“Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”
~ Ella Fitzgerald
We all have people in our lives who have inspired us. (Thanks, Mom!!) Maybe you had a parent, grandparent, teacher or friend whose encouragement and enthusiasm made a difference in your life. Their positivity and support may have motivated you to “step up” when you needed it.
Sometimes, though, we go looking for help and guidance from the outside and forget to turn inward toward our own true wisdom and insight. After all, who knows you better than you do? Nobody, right?
Here are 5 fabulous tips on inspiration and how to become your own muse.
1. Get rid of the drama.
The literal definition of inspiration is “drawing in air to the lungs.” So when we take the time to just “be”, sit and quiet the mind we often get inspired with sudden brilliant, creative, or timely ideas. If you can turn down the negativity in that little voice inside your head, you can steer your thought process to move in the right direction.
2. Make a plan.
Got any idea where you want to be six months from now? If not, you seriously need to make a date with your notebook. Write down your goals and make sure they are clear. Break down big goals into smaller ones and keep a checklist of things you will do to reach them. You need a good map to find the finish line!
3. Become relentless.
Stay on track. Don’t let discouragement get in your way! Don’t listen to the nay-sayers, whether they are real or imagined. If you cultivate your drive, you’ll become unstoppable.
4. Keep your feet on the ground.
Be mindful. Don’t get ahead of yourself; remember to stay humble. As you follow your path to success, don’t forget to be grateful – even if things don’t turn out exactly like you wanted. Which leads to tip number 5…
5. Roll with the punches.
In yoga, we call the exercises we do a “practice.” And every time we begin them, we start our practice again. In life, we are constantly starting over. The ability to re-invent ourselves keeps us flexible and inspired!
Ella Fitzgerald was right: Where there is love and inspiration, you can’t go wrong. Love yourself first. Then you you can inspire yourself and be your own muse!
